Tanner's New York Public Library NYPL Secret Proposal Photographer

What’s makes the New York Public Library (NYPL) in Bryant Park so cool, iconic, and picturesque is the soft light within the building and it’s beautiful archways. Even though Tanner chose a beautiful sunny day for his secret proposal, the library and Bryant Park offered a picture perfect NYC experience.

Colin's Pier 46 Manhattan Proposal

Pier 46 on Manhattan’s West Village is right next to the West Village. It’s views are unique compared to other NYC piers, as it’s slightly more North than Pier 25, it has no restaurants on it’s West End, and it has unobstructed views facing North (Empire State Building and Hudson Yards). It’s more open and less busy than Pier 45.

Caffe Panna Secret Proposal

What was so unique of Raunak’s proposal in Gramercy was his attention to detail and creativity. Caffe Panna is their favorite ice cream spot in their neighborhood of Gramercy, so it was a very fitting spot to propose. Raunak worked with the store to create a custom menu with their favorite flavors and a special message at the bottom, “Will You Marry Me”.

Aaron's Oak Bridge Proposal in Central Park NYC

Aaron chose Oak Bridge in Central Park for his proposal. He picked this spot for its balance of New York City skyline frames, natural surroundings, and relative privacy compared to more popular bridge locations.

The Proposal Story

  • The proposal took place in the late afternoon. The light was soft, and Oak Bridge’s location allowed for skyline views without the harsh shadows that direct sunlight causes.

  • Aaron and his partner approached the bridge together. The structure of the bridge was used to frame the city skyline behind them, and water and foliage also served as natural background elements.

  • Photos included wide shots (showing bridge + skyline), medium shots (the couple plus surroundings), and close shots capturing expressions.

  • Because Oak Bridge tends to be less crowded than some better-known spots like Bow Bridge, we had more flexibility in framing and moving around without distraction or rush.

Why Oak Bridge Works Well for Proposals

  • Offers strong skyline views while being more off the beaten path, giving privacy advantages over more famous Central Park bridges.

  • Natural framing elements (bridge structure, trees, water) help with varied compositions.

  • Afternoon light at Oak Bridge tends to be favorable: softer shadows, less glare, and better contrast.

  • The environment feels natural and balanced—enough city to make the location visually impressive, but natural elements to keep things intimate.

Tips for Planning a Proposal at Oak Bridge

  • Aim for late afternoon or “golden hour” so lighting is more flattering.

  • Visit on a weekday or non-peak time to avoid heavy crowding.

  • Scout vantage points ahead of time so you know where skyline views are best visible.

  • Choose clothing colors that contrast with the background—city and natural scenery.

  • Work with a photographer who knows Central Park’s layout and lighting angles, so you can get both city and park elements in your photos without compromise.
