Next Steps ... Photographing Your NYC Proposal

Having photographed over 2,500 surprise marriage proposals in New York City, we’ve learned a lot about what makes a proposal perfect, beautiful, and stress-free. From lighting and crowds to how to get to “X” location at “Y” time without tipping anyone off—we’ve got you covered. Here is a quick guide to next steps once we are booked and some quick tips.

Step 1: Review the plan!

Double check all of the information on the agreement is still accurate! Ensure you know how to get to the spot. We sent a Google Map pin on the Google agreement, so you can easily navigate there.

IF YOU ARE NOT FROM NYC

CENTRAL PARK - Cars are not allowed in the park! Let Google Maps tell you where to go and how to get there; walking, subway, car. Plan your route using the “I am leaving at TIME” feature.

UBERS AND TAXIS: Allow time for traffic if you are taking a car. There is traffic and it’s going to be BAD traffic.

Walking: You’re going to have to walk to a lot of places. That’s just a fact.

Busy!: This is a city of 9 million + a BIGILLION more tourists. There are going to be people.

Step 2: Leading up to the day!

We’ll touch base week of, the day prior, and day of via text.

Step 3: Proposal Day! - We have a photo of you, you have a photo of us.

On the big day, your photographer arrives about 30 minutes early. We want to ensure we are 1) there before you and 2) the spot is good to go; lighting, crowds, and the view! We’ll send over a selfie that’s “marked up” (see below), so you know exactly who to look for and where /how to stand for the best angles. We emphasize catching authentic emotion; your partner’s reaction is always the priority. We move around as we capture.

When do you get your photos, and how many photos?

All photos captured are delivered edited, full resolution print ready, and without watermarks within 7 days. These are 100% your photos.

Tips and tricks to being a ROCKSTAR NYC Proposal Photographer

  • TIP #1 Let us know what you’re wearing and text us when you’re 5minutes away, so we can ensure the spot is ready for you and not crowded.

  • TIP #2 The photographer will stand in the spot, so no one else is there. As you approach the spot, your photographer will walk out of the spot, and you’ll walk in to the spot.

  • TIP #3 Ask us to snap a candid photo of you two with your phone just before you propose. It helps loosen things up, gives you a fun keepsake, and nobody suspects—the real camera is already ready.

Greg's Carl Schurz Park Upper East Side Surprise Proposal

Capturing the Perfect Moment: Greg’s Afternoon Proposal at Carl Schurz Park on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

When Greg decided to propose to his partner, he knew he wanted the moment to be as unique and memorable as their story. After careful consideration, he chose Carl Schurz Park on Manhattan's Upper East Side for the special occasion. While Central Park is often considered the go-to spot for proposals in New York City, Carl Schurz Park offers a quieter, more intimate alternative that can elevate your engagement photography to another level. If you live on the Upper East Side you must have visited Carl Schurz atleast once.

In this blog post, we'll walk you through the beauty of Carl Schurz Park, why it's an ideal location for a proposal, and the unforgettable experience of photographing Greg's afternoon engagement.

While Central Park has earned its iconic status as a proposal hotspot, Carl Schurz Park offers its own set of unique advantages that make it a hidden gem for couples looking for something more serene and personal.

  1. Tranquil, Less Crowded Setting Central Park, while stunning, is often bustling with tourists, joggers, and photographers. For a more private and peaceful atmosphere, Carl Schurz Park provides a quieter setting on the Upper East Side, with fewer crowds, which allows for a more intimate experience. The serene environment makes it easier to connect with your partner and focus on the moment without distractions.

  2. Stunning Views of the East River and Roosevelt Island One of the standout features of Carl Schurz Park is its breathtaking views of the East River. The park offers panoramic vistas of Roosevelt Island, the Queensboro Bridge, and the Manhattan skyline, creating a picturesque backdrop that perfectly complements the beauty of the proposal. Whether you're near the water’s edge or nestled in one of the park’s lush green spaces, the scenery adds a dramatic flair to your photos.

  3. Diverse Photo Opportunities The park's design, which includes tree-lined paths, blooming gardens, and elegant statues, provides a range of picturesque backdrops for engagement photos. From the iconic Gracie Mansion (the official residence of the Mayor of New York City) to the tranquil riverside, the location offers a variety of scenic spots that will make your engagement photos look as though they belong in a storybook.

Lighting: Natural light can be your best friend. If the proposal is happening in the morning or late afternoon, you'll get beautiful, soft lighting. Overcast days can also be great for even lighting without harsh shadows.

  1. Discretion: Be as unobtrusive as possible to keep the surprise intact. Blend in like just another tourist with a camera. We don’t start photographing until they are clearly proposing, and then it’s GO TIME!

  2. Backup Plan: Have a backup plan for different weather conditions or unexpected changes. If it’s raining, we can either move the proposal up or back to avoid the weather. Or we can find an alternative location. Regardless of the situation, we’ll clearly communicate in advance.

What was so unique of Raunak’s proposal in Gramercy was his attention to detail and creativity. Caffe Panna is their favorite ice cream spot in their neighborhood of Gramercy, so it was a very fitting spot to propose. Raunak worked with the store to create a custom menu with their favorite flavors and a special message at the bottom, “Will You Marry Me”.
