An Afternoon Terrace Proposal at the Ritz-Carlton

Jacob planned his proposal for a bright, crisp afternoon on the terrace of the Ritz-Carlton — a location that offers uninterrupted views of Lower Manhattan. And yes, he received just that, a bright, crisp New York City afternoon with the World Trade rising in the background.

The terrace, which is normally closed for the season provided clean bright light. The combination of the buildings clean glass facade and the skyline views created a perfect backdrop for this Friday afternoon fall surprise proposal.

Planning and Capturing the Moment

The goal for this proposal was to highlight Manhattan from multiple perspectives, moving from the dramatic views of Lower Manhattan looking South to iconic Midtown landmarks looking North. After capturing the proposal on the South terrace, we swapped to the North side for an unrivaled view of the Empire State Building.

Why is the Ritz-Carlton Terrace Is a Stunning Midtown manhattan Proposal Location?

The terrace at the Ritz-Carlton offers one of the best elevated city views in Manhattan with privacy. It combines privacy and intimate panoramic skyline views making it ideal for couples who want both intimacy and that unmistakable New York backdrop. While there are observatories like The Edge at Hudson Yards, which are breath taking, they are far from private.

From One World Trade to the Empire State Building, the location brings together the city’s most iconic architecture, all in walking distance. For couples wanting a polished, modern, and unforgettable NYC proposal spot, the Ritz-Carlton terrace delivers every time.

Photographing an Upper East Side rooftop proposal

What made photographing this Upper East Side (UES) rooftop proposal so special were the details and the meaning behind it all. From the rose petals, to the champaign, to the ring, and our mini-engagement session in Carl Schurz Park along the East River, everything was so well thought out. This client chose to propose in a private and timeless fashion with nothing being overdone; no 3 foot “Will You Marry Me” letters or LED signs here!

Out of all the places we go as NYC’s leading Surprise Proposal Photographer, Carl Schurz is one of our favorite and least chosen spots. We often hear from Upper East Side couple’s this park has so much meaning to them and they love it for it’s private (zero tourists).
