Proposal

A Winter Afternoon Proposal in Central Park, NYC

Iconic, is the first word that comes to mind when I hear “I want to propose in Central Park”. In late December New York City is a magical place in every sense. Christmas lights are strung, garland is wrapped, horse drawn carriages are clacking around the park, and the cold brisk NYC wind makes warmth feel so much more deserving. Whether it’s the warmth of a hot chocolate in your hand or your partners hand, something warm feels good.

While the leaves and greenery are long gone from Central Park, the views are abundant. The stark contrast between you and the environment stands out, and when photographed it just hits difference. For Matt’s secret proposal, we chose the area just past the Bow Bridge for it’s privacy and view.

A True NYC Winter Proposal atop Cat's Rock in Central Park

Where and when to propose in Central Park - Cat’s Rock in the morning is the spot that provides privacy and a view.

Photographing proposals in Central Park against nature and the concrete jungle is such a contrast from the typical New York City hustle and bustle proposal. Finding the right spot in Central Park for you really depends on time of day (lighting), if you have a special place in the park, and the seasons. Another factor to consider is how busy will the park be during your proposal? Do mind others in your photos or would you like more privacy?

Cat’s Rock above the Central Park ice skating rink is the spot that provides a view while be convenient. I suggest this spot to many clients when they ask about the park and capturing a view of NYC.

Nick's Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Proposal

Everyone has that crisp Christmas memory as a kid. For many, that core memory is sitting in the back of your parents’ car looking at Christmas lights. The lights shined so bright and so warm against the dark winter sky. As an adult, the closest Christmas experience I can relate to that childhood memory is walking around NYC, all bundled up, under the Christmas lights. It’s just magical. New York City along 5th Avenue and the Rockefeller Christmas Tree takes you back to being a kid looking at all of the houses decorated for Christmas.

Day or night, the Rockefeller Christmas Tree shines bright. However, it’s always so busy. The key to visiting this iconic New York City icon is going early and avoiding the crowds. For today’s proposal, Nick chose proposing first thing in the morning before brunch.

Ethan's Transmitter Park Greenpoint Brooklyn Marriage Proposal

Morning proposals are some of our favorites for sure. However, nothing beats photographing a secret morning proposal in Greenpoint Brooklyn with the NYC skyline behind a great couple couple. Ethan’s proposal in Transmitter Park Saturday morning could not have gone any better. The couple was out for their normal morning walk before getting coffee. They took their normal route, stopped at their favorite coffee shop, and on the way back took in the view.

Austin planned some of the trip, but really left most of the trip to Sam. All Austin knew was Sam had specifically requested to the see Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. Austin kicked their trip off with a bang on night one.

Kalil's Madison Square Park Morning Proposal in New York City

Should I Propose In The Morning Or Afternoon?

Proposing in the morning has so many great benefits, especially in New York City. My top reasons to propose in the morning are as follows:

  • Get it done and have the rest of the day to celebrate! Plan a post proposal brunch and then call your family/friends to share the news.

  • Beat the crowds - Most NY’ers and tourists alike don’t really start their day until noon. That’s when all the good spots start to get busy.

  • Lighting - The morning has GREAT light and lets us photograph in places we could not otherwise.

I know not everyone is a morning person, however the best way to get your partner out and about is by promising a coffee and a pastry. Real New Yorkers can’t say no to a good pastry and a coffee. Walk the park or that special place with a coffee in one hand and your partners hand in the other. I know it may be a bit cliche, but nothing beats a morning coffee and an empty city. Your partner will forget about the early wakeup when you ask the big question.
