NYC LSAT Prep Class - TestMasters

Photographing a class in action

These photos are from a Thursday afternoon higher education photography style shoot for TestMasters. TestMasters offers students throughout the United States prep classes for the LSAT, GMAT, GRE, SAT, and ACT. When photographing for TestMasters, I am given a structure of how to photograph the class and a guide defining what type of photos are considered deliverable. When photographing, I have to be as unobtrusive as possible.

How to be a good higher education photographer …

I always try to arrive early. This lets me create my own situations, between the students and between students-teachers before class starts. Student-Teacher engagement is key! Basically, a teacher and a student working together.

After I capture student-teacher engagement and “active learning” with some of my own stylized scenarios the class can actually begins (on time!). As the teacher and class get going I sit in various seats around the room. Every few minutes I move to capture a new vantage point.

NYC Professional Headshot Photographer

The “Best NYC Headshot Photographer” is what I would Google if I was looking for a new headshot photo. Jonathan Heisler Photography NYC is becoming one of the go to headshot photographers in New York City. Our headshots or “portrait photos” are not just the standard photo against a backdrop. My style headshot photo captures environment and tells the larger story of who you and what you do.

Finding a linkedin profile photo photographer or headshot photographer you like is tricky. Work with a photograph that will make you feel comfortable in front of the camera.

Many of portrait photos are often candid moments in between laughter and conversation. A good portrait photographer, not matter in NYC or elsewhere, will take you becoming comfortable in front of the camera is the hardest part of capturing a good headshot.

Shalom Hartman Institute | Full Day Conference - January 27, 2020

On Monday, I photographed another full day conference for Shalom Hartman Institute at their Morningside Heights Manhattan, NY office. Most of the photos were candids and some were a bit more staged. The staged photos aimed to show “engagement” and a “shared learning experience”, all of the keywords I often hear in Higher Education Photography. During this conference, I had more time and flexibility to photograph the conference participants in posed groups.

Event Photographers play a large part in helping an organizations marketing/advertising messaging hit home.

As a NYC event photographer, I always strive to photograph the “5 Ws”; Who, What, Where, When, and Why. I want to photograph who attended the event, where was the event, what was the event’s purpose, when was the event, and why was there an event and not a zoom meeting. For an event photographer, their schedule can be jammed packed with assignments, especially at full day conferences. Other times, the event he/she is photographing can be slow. None the less, it is my job to tell the story of the event and show the event in its best light.

Rocky Mountain National Park | Colorado Winter Ski Trip

Quick trip to Colorado to visit our friends Tatum and Adam in Tabernash, Colorado. On this trip, we skied a bunch, hiked a bunch, snow shoed a whole bunch, and snowmobiled. Throughout the week, we visited many of Colorado’s top sites. From Winter Park for skiing to Rocky Mountain National Park for every winter activity imaginable we did it all in just 4 days.

Ryan + Hannah | Central Park Winter Proposal

Congrats to the newly engaged couple, Ryan and Hannah!

HOW I PHOTOGRAPHED A CENTRAL PARK PROPOSAL

The back story to photographing this iconic NYC proposal | Ryan and I, worked out a day and a location for his marriage proposal. The location would be Central Park’s Bow Bridge and the Bethesda Fountain on Saturday. Both locations are great places to photograph proposals in New York City and both capture iconic NYC points of interest. However, as we got closer we saw it was going to rain/ snow on Saturday. Although, we had a plan B indoor location, it wasn’t what either of us had planned. Most importantly, it wasn’t what Ryan wanted.

I <3 BEING A NYC PROPOSAL PHOTOGRAPHER

I reassured Ryan that I could photograph in the rain if he wanted to go ahead with his original plan. In fact, I’ve photographed countless marriage proposals in Manhattan and Brooklyn in the rain, sleet, snow, and extreme heat. But we agreed to reschedule and it was going to be for the better.

The solution was moving the proposal to Friday. Ryan and I were in constant contact about the new date, new time, and even the new location. This new location was where they went on one of their first dates and had great views of Manhattan looking South.
